Fields of Activity
Print

Rinpoche's activity, which springs from the indissoluble union of wisdom and altruism, is expressed through teaching the Buddhadharma, giving aid and publishing the treasury of wisdom.

TEACHING has three levels:

  • How to become a Buddhist and follow the basic principals and practices,
  • A six-year university programme of listening and reflection,
  • When listening and reflection have been perfected, introduction to the natural state and the perfection of meditation to make it manifest.

AID has six branches:

  • Dharma advice for chronic sufferers of mental and physical illness,
  • Activities to diminish the occurrence of disturbing emotions,
  • Altruism to conquer the suffering caused to self and others as a result of suicide,
  • Mediation to combat conflict within families and groups of friends and associates,
  • Development of loving kindness.
  • Educational, medical and socio-economic programmes to combat illiteracy, ill-health and poor living conditions within communities at risk,

PUBLISHING

  • The translation and dissemination of important texts, especially those of the Longchen Nyingthik and of Patrul Rinpoche.

The lines above were written in 1997, soon after Rinpoche's arrival in Europe. Many of these aspects of help have already taken form through the Zangdok Palri Institute, Zangdok Palri Lotus and Wisdom Treasury Publication House.

The Zangdok Palri Institute

Objective

The Zangdok Palri Insitute has been founded as a support for the study and practice of Buddhist philosophy.

Courses at the institute explore Buddhist wisdom and, especially, the very precious tradition of the Longchen Nyingthik.

Courses

- The General Buddhist Studies which is open to everyone who wishes to discover or deepen their study of Buddhism.

- The Six-Year Dzogchen Practitioners' Course, which has been designed as a more suitable framework for those students who wish to deepen and broaden the scope of their study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism, and who wish to commit themselves to a 6-year programme of intensive study and practice.

Both courses are taught at the Annual ZPI, which will be held in Europe during the summer months.

These courses will provide a rare and important opportunity to study and practice the authentic path of self-liberation under the compassionate gaze and wise counsel of authentic teachers.

Development Aid

Mission

"Through the Zangdok Palri Project we hope to construct an environment which will support the local people's aspirations and enable them to develop to their greatest potential".
      Dzogchen Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche

The purpose of the Zangdok Palri programme is to allow the people of Dzogchen in Tibet to improve their living conditions by developing skills which allow them to promote the development of their own region. To achieve this goal, the Zangdok Palri association offers assistance and guidance, material and financial support to local initiatives in the areas of education, socio-economic development and maintain of the Tibetan culture.

On the other hand, the ancestral wisdom of Tibet is part of our world's human heritage. Creating an opportunity for authentic exchange, sharing our best in return for a deeper contact with the best in Tibetan culture is an exciting and truly worthwhile project.

Projects

School in Dzogchen

The Sambotha Primary School for girls and orphans

The school is expanding and a teacher’s building has been constructed. A good team of teachers, a cook, a care-taker and his wife are permanently onsite. The premises are now very suitable to welcome orphans and give them not only a formal education but also the human care they need to grow up harmoniously.
