Jigme Lingpa was born in central Tibet in the eighteenth century, and is regarded as one of the most important spiritual masters in the history of the Nyingma tradition. In a vision, he received the profound teachings of Longchenpa, the great fourteenth-century master, giving rise to the Longchen Nyingthik teachings that remain the foundation of our practice today.
This lineage has since produced a remarkable line of realized beings. Among them was Patrul Rinpoche, the wandering yogi and accomplished practitioner, author of The Words of My Perfect Teacher (Kunzang Lama’i Zhalung), a complete guide to the practice of the Longchen Nyingthik preliminaries. Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche, recognized as the third incarnation of Dza Patrul Rinpoche, continues to hold and transmit this precious Longchen Nyingthik lineage in our time.
In gathering to honour Jigme Lingpa, we pay homage not only to the origin of these teachings, but to the unbroken thread of transmission that connects us to them.
