Yumka Drupchen

Yumka Dechen Gyalmo is an important dakini sadhana from the Longchen Nyingthik treasures. Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche received the transmission of the Longchen Nyingthik cycle primarily from Kyabje Drukpa Tulku Rinpoche.

How did it start?

In 2019, Ranyak Patrul Rinpoche introduced three additional drupchen retreats. Yumka Dechen Gyalmo was one of the profound practices that he initiated. The first Yumka drupchen took place in Dhumathala, Georgia.

What is it about?

The aim of a drupchen is to purify and tame our body, speech and mind to become authentic and beneficial. As Rinpoche said in spring 2019:

Drupchen it is a great Buddhist meditation retreat. According to the teachings of the highest buddhas, it is called the resultant teaching, which is directly connected to our own potential of the qualities of the buddha nature. Generally, the purpose of the meditation is to make our own buddha nature manifest. Therefore, we are making this specific meditation retreat.
The Tibetan word “drupchen” translates as “Great Accomplishment”. Based on the resultant path, it is connected to the five perfections: perfect place, perfect time, perfect teacher, perfect assembly, perfect teaching—the profound meditation of generation and dissolution during the great accomplishment. Therefore, if someone is interested or enthusiastic about it or wants to enjoy it, you are very welcome. This time we are following the specific tradition of the Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse (Longchen Nyingthik) revealed by Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa, an extraordinary master of the Great Perfection (Dzogchen). His biography is well known and can be found through mysterious Mister Google.

This drupchen, held in Georgia, is conducted with the sadhana of Yumka Dechen Gyalmo, one of the three roots. The three roots are: the lama who is the source of blessings, the yidam who is the source of all siddhis and the khandro (dakini) who is the source of all enlightened activity. The accomplishment of the blessings of the inner lama Rigdzin Düpa is done in Dharma City and the second accomplishment of the blessings of the secret lama Dugngal Rangdröl takes place in Japan. Now we have the great opportunity to accomplish the source of the perfect enlightened activities, through the drupchen of Yumka Dechen Gyalmo in Georgia. Yumka Dechen Gyalmo is the great enlightenment. On the dharmakaya level, she is Samantabhadri; on the sambkogakaya level she is Vajrayogini; on the nirmanakaya level she is the great consort of the second buddha Padmasambhava. From the perspective of meditation, in this kind of profound sadhana, our meditation is deep and more effective to benefit the mind.

The drupchen took place in the wonderful site of Dhumathala (the City of the Dakinis) imbued with Rinpoche’s kindness and compassion.

Learning how to practice

The particularity of these drupchens is that Patrul Rinpoche has been the first who, year after year, taught Westerners how to perform all aspects of a drupchen sadhana. Patrul Rinpoche is the Vajra Master, sometimes assisted by Lopön Tsering Gönpo as Vajra Assistant, while his students perform all the necessary tasks to perform the sadhana: chant leader (umze), instruments, ritual service (chopön), setting up the mandala, making tormas, etc.
